Let's Talk about Wind Talkers!

Isn’t it a wonder how simple things can provide so much fun?  We call this little thingamabobber a Wind Talker.  Start with a free wood paint stir stick from the paint department of a hardware or big box store.  If it doesn’t have a hole already, drill one.  Let the kiddos loose with some paint or permanent markers to decorate, then tie an approximate 5 foot length of soft strong cord through the hole.  It needs to move freely – we used leftover yarn and it was just right.  Head outside or into a room with lots of empty space and place the kiddos several feet away from each other.  Holding the string at the side of the body and letting the paint stick fall almost to the ground, begin rotating the string quickly to start the Wind Talker.  Varying speeds will change the volume.
